- After it finishes running, I get the following results, which indicate corrupted system files: SFC.EXE repairs most issues.
- DISM sometimes requires the original installation medium, such as a USB flash drive or optical disc.
- Notably Connection Sharing (ICS) and Personal Firewall cause WMP to use TCP/IP instead of UDP.
- In my case, I ran into an entirely unresolvable corruption of system files on my Windows 10 installation.
- Symptoms of this problem are a 1) "Module not found" error when playing DRM content, and 2) wmploc.dll being version 10.0.0.3802 or later while wmadmod.dll and/or wmvdmod.dll is only version 10.0.0.3646.
- Note that you'll want to retry the Media Guide after each step, since I believe not all of these steps are necessary.
- If problems exist, and SFC and DISM can’t resolve them, I’ve learned that the simplest method offers the most useful tool for dealing with Windows issues: the in-place upgrade.
